A rental marketplace built for how Nairobi actually works.
Nairobi renters and landlords relied on WhatsApp groups and word-of-mouth — no verification, no paper trail, and no reliable way to pay. Fraud was common, and good listings disappeared before anyone could act on them.

The challenge
Nairobi renters and landlords relied on WhatsApp groups and word-of-mouth — no verification, no paper trail, and no reliable way to pay. Fraud was common, and good listings disappeared before anyone could act on them.
Our approach
We built a full-stack rental marketplace with verified listings, in-app messaging, and integrated payments supporting both M-Pesa and card. The platform handles the full journey from discovery to deposit, with a zero-fraud verification flow.
Why this stack
- 01Next.js for SEO-friendly listing pages and a fast, crawlable marketplace
- 02Node.js + PostgreSQL for a transactional backend with relational listings, bookings, and payments
- 03M-Pesa API (STK push) as the primary payment rail, with card as a secondary option
- 04React Native for the tenant/landlord mobile experience
Results
- 200+ verified listings within 3 months of launch
- M-Pesa and card payments integrated from day one
- Zero-fraud listing verification system
- In-app messaging with read receipts and document sharing
“Yahventech turned our rental business from WhatsApp chaos into a real marketplace. We launched with verified listings and M-Pesa payments from day one.”
